Meghan has 'crossed picket line' after signing £3m deal with 'worst offender of actors rights'

The Duchess has been accused of "crossing the picket line" as reports circulate that the Sussexes are striking another deal with Netflix, which has been dubbed the 'worst offender' of actor's rights, to produce their first movie.

Meghan has been slammed for 'crossing the picket line' in the showbiz industry according to a PR expert

The Duchess of Sussex has been accused of "crossing the picket line" amid reports that Harry and Meghan are planning to strike another deal with Netflix.

The Sussexes are reportedly producing their first movie and are said to have purchased the rights to the best-selling novel Meet Me At The Lake, with plans to adapt it for the streaming giant.

An American PR expert who goes by the handle "RoyalTea" on X said: “Three years to make their first acquisition and they announce it now?

“Meghan, an admitted SAG member, and Harry have essentially crossed the picket line to continue making deals for one of the streaming giants that are the worst offenders of actors' rights,” the Express reports.

The Sussexes signed a multi-million dollar contract with Netflix in 2020 after they left the royal family

Experts believe it might have cost up to around £3m for the romantic novel, written by former journalist turned author Carley Fortune, according to The Sun.

The novel is a “love story” based on a couple who meet in their 30s which references back to Harry and Meghan's ages when they began their real-life relationship.

The popular book, which sold a jaw dropping 37,000 copies in the first week of its release in May alone, is particularly significant to Prince Harry as it deals with themes of childhood trauma over losing a parent to a car crash, mental health and post-natal depression.

The announcement comes after the couple released their six part Netflix docuseries at the end of last year, which explored their lives behind the scenes since stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex starred in the show with Liz Garbus, a filmmaker who Meghan described as a "seasoned director whose work I've long admired".

Harry and Meghan's Netflix docuseries was a huge success on the digital streaming platform despite their Emmy snub

The Sussexes signed a five year $100m contract with Netflix in September 2020 to produce documentaries, feature films, scripted shows, docuseries and children's programming but have only released their bombshell Harry & Meghan docuseries so far.

The couple saw their lucrative deal with Spotify come to an abrupt end last month after they were dropped from the digital music streaming platform.

As a result, Meghan's award-winning podcast, Archetypes was axed after just twelve episodes.
