As she celebrates her birthday on August 4, Meghan Markle has broken a surprising record. Five years after giving up her acting career, Prince Harry's wife achieves an unexpected new feat.

It's a strange birthday gift for Meghan Markle, who is celebrating her 42nd birthday this Friday, August 4. Suits has indeed set a streaming record nearly four years after the airing of its ninth and final season. The series in which Meghan Markle played one of the main roles has set two viewing records, back to back, in the United States where it has been available in the Netflix catalog since June. A first record was broken the week of June 26 to July 2 and again the following week, from July 3 to 9. Suits was thus watched for 3.14 billion minutes then 3.674 billion minutes. The record was previously held by Manifest, which recorded 2.49 billion minutes of viewing between June 14 and 20, 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Suits: a real hit in the United States

In addition to being at the top of the ratings on the list of acquired series (that is, those that are not creations of the streaming platform) in early July, Suits is also at the top of all programs combined ahead of The Witcher, which comes in second place with 1.31 billion minutes of viewing, and The Bear which completes the top three with 1.01 billion minutes. According to Deadline, the viewings were mainly focused on season 1. With 9 seasons to its credit, Suits could indeed surpass its popularity record in the coming weeks.

Meghan Markle: from one role to another

The presence of Meghan Markle in the cast of the series is undoubtedly not unrelated to this success. Suits follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who uses his photographic memory to work his way up to a partner position in the firm, despite having dropped out of university and never attended law school. The Duchess of Sussex played the role of Rachel Zane in the series. A role she gave up in 2018 to devote herself to her new role as Prince Harry's wife.
