Did Catherine Middleton Break Protocol at Trooping The Color The Guesture the Spark Controversy
Kate Middleton's presence at the Trooping the Colour parade was highly anticipated. However, the Princess of Wales certainly did not expect to be the source of controversy due to British protocol.
Saturday, June 17, was a day of utmost importance for Charles III. A few weeks after being crowned king at Westminster Abbey, the husband of Camilla Parker-Bowles attended his very first Trooping the Colour. An event that takes place every year in London and celebrates the official birthday of the monarch. Charles III thus celebrates his birthday twice a year, like his mother Queen Elizabeth II before him.
For this 200-year-old tradition, members of the British royal family followed a very precise protocol. The procession began at Horse Guards and continued to Buckingham Palace. Charles III was on his horse, as were Prince William, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne. In fact, no one failed to notice that the king was somewhat grumpy because of his steed, which seemed to be in a bad mood on the day of Trooping the Colour.
Did Kate Middleton decide not to curtsy?
And, as usual, all eyes were on Kate Middleton! Stunning in a green dress, the Princess of Wales chose not to ride on horseback that day. Style took precedence for the mother of George, Charlotte, and Louis, who appeared in a carriage with her children and the queen consort. And that's not all! As tradition dictates, members of the royal family must follow protocol when approaching the king and queen. When getting out of the carriage, Pippa's sister should have curtsied when joining the king and his wife.
Except that Kate Middleton did not bow, as several royal family experts noticed. So, did the perfect Princess of Wales decide to ignore etiquette? Not at all! As Hello! pointed out, Prince William's wife had already met the royal couple earlier in the morning. She therefore did not need to make yet another curtsy to Charles and Camilla, quite simply!
